LA Firefighters Allegedly Let Porn Producers Use Fire Trucks in Film

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — The Los Angeles Fire Department is investigating allegations that firefighters allowed porn producers to use their fire engine in an adult film.

An LAFD engine was reportedly used as a backdrop to shoot explicit scenes with an X-rated movie actress during a for a porn film shot at Venice Beach.

The story was first reported by NBC4, which posted clips showing a scantily-clad actress exposing herself to passers-by on Venice Beach, and said firefighters helped to set up the shoot. A second shoot allegedly used a truck from Station 41 in Hollywood.

It’s currently under investigation,” said LAFD spokesman Jaime Moore, adding that Fire Chief Brian Cummings “has asked that there be a thorough investigation to determine if there was any wrongdoing by any firefighters.”

LAFD policy states that employees must “operate apparatus in a way that does not compromise the reputation of the department.”

The investigation is trying to determine to what extent fire personnel had knowledge of the shoot and whether any firefighters participated, he said.

No firefighters have been fired or placed on leave in relation to the incidents to date, he said.

Wisconsin man gulps down his 25,000th Big Mac

BIG MAC 3465149.JPG

A retired prison guard ate his 25,000th Big Mac today, 39 years to the day after eating his first … nine.

Don Gorske was honored after reaching the meaty milestone during a ceremony at a McDonald’s in his hometown of Fond du Lac. Surely McDonald’s most loyal customer, Guinness World Records recognized Gorske’s feat three years and 2,000 Big Macs ago, and the 59-year-old says he has no desire to stop.

“I plan on eating Big Macs until I die,” he said. “I have no intentions of changing. It’s still my favorite food. Nothing has changed in 39 years. I look forward to it every day.”

Gorske, who appeared in the 2004 documentary ”Super Size Me,“ which examined the fast food industry, looks nothing like one might expect of a fast food junkie. He’s trim and walks regularly for exercise, and he attributes his build to being ”hyperactive.“ He said he was recently given a clean bill of health and that his cholesterol is low.

Gorske’s obsession with the burger — two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun, for those not familiar with the once-ubiquitous ads — started May 17, 1972, when he bought three Big Macs to celebrate the purchase of a new car. He was hooked, and went back to McDonald’s twice more that day, eating nine before they closed.

He’s only gone eight days since without a Big Mac, and most days he eats two. Among the reasons he skipped a day was to grant his mother a dying wish. His last Big Mac-less day was Thanksgiving 2000, when he forgot to stock up and the store was closed for the holiday.

Gorske said he loves numbers and counting things and was inspired to start counting his burgers because McDonald’s noted how many hamburgers were served on their sign.

He said he probably has an obsessive-compulsive disorder, and that he likes repetition and doesn’t like change. He said he’s kept many of the Big Mac boxes and receipts over the years, and has noted his purchases in calendars he’s kept.

McDonald’s says there are 540 calories in a Big Mac, which is more than a quarter of the calories a person on a 2,000-calorie diet would consume. The burger also contains 29 grams of fat and 1,040 grams of sodium, which are both more than 40 percent of the Food and Drug Administration’s daily recommended value for a 2,000-calorie diet.

Tara Gidus, a registered dietitian in Orlando, Fla., said she wouldn’t recommend Gorske’s Big Mac diet, and that he’s likely stayed relatively healthy because of good genetics and because he doesn’t order a lot of extras, such as fries and sodas.

She said the Big Mac provides protein and grains, which the body needs, and that she would be ”less concerned about the bad stuff in the Big Mac and more concerned about the good stuff he’s missing,” such as fruits and vegetables.

Gorske said he likes other foods, including bratwurst and lobsters, but that he loves Big Macs and his wife Mary, a nurse, never has to worry about making him a meal.

“I really do enjoy every Big Mac,” he said.

He said his wife jokes about ending his streak.

“She says … when she has to put them in a blender, it’s over,” he said.

Weight Loss Doctor Told Patients Sex With Him Would Burn Calories, cops say

A Conshohocken weight loss doctor used his hands or a foreign object to penetrate patients, telling one victim, “If you have an orgasm, that would burn 200 calories,” according to court documents obtained by NBC Philadelphia.

“A number of [the victims] used the word ‘creepy’ to describe his conduct,” Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman said in a press conference Monday.

Dr. Arie Oren, who works at Conshohocken Weight Control at 100 West 3rd Avenue, was arrested on multiple counts of aggravated indecent assault after several female patients reported to police that Oren inappropriately touched them during weight loss sessions between September and December 2010, according to Ferman.

One victim told police that Oren told her, “You’re getting an extra special treat for losing all the weight,” and he then used a massager on her genitals, according to court documents.

Another victim told police that the 64-year-old doctor grabbed her breasts. Yet another victim said that the doctor sexually assaulted her, and when she protested, he unbuttoned his pants and said, “If you need a man, I’m a man,” according to court documents.

“For a woman to go to a doctor like this, looking for help with weight loss — which is such a personal matter — and to then have the doctor touch her sexually…is really a complete betrayal of what the doctor is supposed to be doing,” Ferman said.

Oren is a convicted felon who served prison time in the late 1990s for an insurance fraud scheme, according to authorities.

He was released after posting $100,000 cash bail following his arraignment Monday afternoon.

The District Attorney’s Office believes there may be more women who were victim to Oren’s abuse and Ferman hopes they will come forward.

Bradenton Beach woman busted for exposing other woman’s breasts at Bayshore High

Laura Campanello

MANATEE — A 42-year-old Bradenton Beach woman was arrested at Bayshore High School this week after she pulled out another woman’s breasts to protest her exposed cleavage, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office. Laura Campanello, a parent of a child at the school, caused a disturbance about 11:20 a.m. Monday when she started to yell that another woman who was enrolling her child at the school, was showing “too much breast,” according to deputy’s report.

The deputy told Campanello that the woman was an adult, and “I cannot tell her what to wear as long as she is not exposing herself.”Campanello responded, “Oh, then I can,” while reaching into the other woman’s blouse and pulling out her breasts. “And then I can just do this,” while squeezing them together,” the report states.

The incident took place in the front office and was witnessed by the deputy, Campanello’s husband and two other people, according to the report.

Campanello was charged with disorderly conduct and was released from the Manatee County jail after posting $220 bond.

Subway gets into ‘footlong’ fight over ad slogan

DES MOINES – An Iowa-based convenience store has asked a federal judge to rule that the word “footlong” is part of the general English language and not the special property of theSubway restaurant chain.

Ankeny-based Casey’s General Stores Inc. filed a lawsuit against Subway in U.S. District Court in Des Moines on Friday seeking a declaration that Casey’s use of the word “footlong” to describe its 12-inch-long sandwiches doesn’t violate any right owned by Subway.

Casey’s lawsuit also seeks a declaration that “footlong” is a generic description of a sandwich that measures one foot, and that Subway’s attempt to assert trademark rights is “frivolous litigation.”

“We maintain the use of “footlong” by itself to describe a sandwich, which is approximately a foot long, is as old as the hills and everybody has that right and has had that right since they’ve been making foot-long sandwiches,” Ed Sease, an attorney for Casey’s, said Monday.

The lawsuit was first reported by The Des Moines Register on Monday. Subway, owned by Doctor’s Associate Inc. of Plantation, Fla., has used the phrases “$5 footlong” and “five-dollar footlong” for years at its 34,000 stores.

Casey’s describes sandwiches as “footlong” on menu boards at about 180 stores, and intends to roll it out in all of its 1,600 stores in the Midwest, Sease said. The dispute between Casey’s and Subway surfaced when one of Subway’s lawyers, Valerie Pochron, wrote to Casey’s on Jan. 31, saying Doctor’s Associate had applied for the trademark “footlong” for its sandwiches.

In the letter, Pochron told Casey’s it was on notice to “cease and desist” from using “footlong” and remove all references to it or face legal action. Pochron did not immediately return a call seeking comment Monday.

Sease said Subway has applied for two different trademarks for “footlong,” one referring to sandwiches and another for restaurant services.

The U.S. Patent Office rejected the request for restaurant services, and the sandwich trademark is going through the approval process, he said. Before a final ruling, the Patent Office must give others a chance to oppose it.

Long John Silvers, Taco Bell Corp., Kentucky Fried Chicken, Dairy Queen, Pizza Hut and Domino’s opposed the trademark, according to the lawsuit. In 2009, Subway took action against Pennsylvania-based convenience store Sheetz Inc. seeking a restraining order and a preliminary injunction over the use of “footlong.”

A federal judge in Virginia denied Subway’s request. Sease said the Virginia case was not a “legal holding” that the word “footlong” is generic, and that Casey’s lawsuit could settle the issue. “We’re after a final determination and order at the end of a trial that says it’s generic,” he said.

Subway had yet to file a response to Casey’s lawsuit Monday. —— Information from: The Des Moines Register, http://www.desmoinesregister.com

Under a proposed bill, drivers caught slowing down traffic in the left lane could get a ticket.

Under a proposed bill, drivers caught slowing down traffic in the left lane could get a ticket.

Driving too slowly in the left lane on the highway in Florida could soon land you a ticket.

Sen. Mike Bennett from Bradenton recently introduced a bill to fine drivers for going too slowly in the left lane.

Bennett said it’s a safety act meant to crack down on road rage.

“Statistics show when they do impede flow of traffic all the sudden you have an increase in incidents of road rage,” said Bennett. “People start weaving in and out of traffic and when you start weaving in and out of traffic, and have accidents at 75 to 80 miles-per-hour, bad things seriously happen.”

Drivers who support the bill said the threat of a ticket would encourage drivers to be more courteous.

“It is frustrating to go in left lane to want to go 70 or maybe 75, which is not speeding terribly, and people won’t move over,” said Ron Pedigo. “That can cause accidents.”

Not everyone supports the bill.

Some feel it would punish drivers who obey the law.

“How can you do that to somebody when they’re doing the speed limit?” asked Amy Espinoza.

Currently, it’s illegal to drive in the left lane unless passing. However, it’s rarely enforced.

Under the bill, drivers caught going too slow in the left lane would be ticketed.

Sen. Bennett said the bill isn’t meant to encourage drivers to go fast. If drivers do that, they’ll still get a ticket.

He said it’s designed to make drivers more respectful of one another on the roads and improve the flow of traffic.

The fine would be $143. If the bill passes, it would go into effect July 1.
